New Video Blog

Although maybe not the most intresting time in my life regarding windsurf etc... but ive started up a video blog on my site, nothing flashy but hopefully will give you a bit more insight. Its still quite weird talking to a camera but im sure il get the hang of it .http://www.mikeyclancy.com/video-blog/

Do you see the white bit on the picture. That is all gone on me an the two bones will now be joined together.

In response to GP about how my injury occurred, I was in tiree scotland, it was a wavesailing only day, enough for me to get out on my 5.0 and 76 quad ok sort of waves maybe head high, it was cross off and aerial heaven really. I was in my heat anyway in the double elimination horn went and i caught a nice enough one set up hit it perfect and landed well clear of the white water flat and somehow manage to be thrown over the front of the board  with my ankle stuck in the strap. I felt like i pulled something but i finished the heat anyway, obviously got knocked out packed up and went home, it wasn't until that evening that evening that the pain really hit me. But i hadnt felt any crack or popping sensation so i knew i hadnt broken anything so from then on its pretty much covered in my other post.. However my physio reckons i had done the damage over time it just kept healing and gradually getting worse, but saying that i never felt any problem with my ankle before that day. this jumping all day on the Friday before wouldnt of helped matters either http://www.mikeyclancy.com/2009/10/12/tiree-windy-friday/

My Ankle

Ok so after pretty much a dream year for me where I got to fulfill a lifetime dream of mine ever since i began windsurfing to compete with the best windsurfers in the world on the PWA world tour in Pozo and Sylt and also got to travel to a heap of places like South Africa, Reunion Island, Denmark. the end to this year has perhaps been one of the toughest periods i have ever had to go through both mentally and physically

My injury occurred at one of the last contests of the year in tiree in Scotland, at the time i felt it was bad but nothing too serious although in severe pain.So once i got back i got it checked out by the doctors  and got x-rays etc..at the time the news was positive there seemed to be no break or no cracks in my ankle, and the diagnosis was that i tore ligaments in my ankle and i would be out for 6-8 weeks. They gave me an air boot some painkillers and told me to wear it for 3 weeks and to attend physiotherapy, and after 3 weeks to gradually get some movement back into it.

After a few weeks physio therapy including laser therapy ultrasound electronic things and exercises there was little or no improvement so i was back to the hospital for an MRI scan on my ankle and foot to check to see if there was any damage originally not picked up by the x-ray, unfortunately it was bad news as i had expected as i was in constant pain for about 5 weeks with it already and knew something wasn't right. I decided if it was going to be worse than originally expected that i should get it seen to by the best people possible so i got a referral to one of the top foot and ankle specialists in santry sports clinic, on first look at my MRI scan he knew there was quite alot of damage done around the ankle joint and sent my straight down to get an cat scan done on it.The results from that were not promising either, the best way to describe it would be as if you cracked the top of an egg shell is what the bone leading down into my ankle, i cant remember the exact name but the bone coming down from your leg, however this was not the worst of my problems from the cat scan it should that i had damaged my cartilage in my ankle really really badly. I was booked in immediately for surgery that Monday. But because of the severe pain i was in was admitted to St James hospital in Dublin were my consultant Mr Mc Kenna also works in,probably the worst pain was when they moved me from the trolley to the bed as the managed to twist my ankle (probably slightly moved it) but i was in agony, being my first night in the hospital i hadn't been chartered for any medication by the Doctor and by this stage it was like 11 o clock at night on a Friday so there wasn't many doctor's on call. So i was left in pain for a while needless to say that night i didn't sleep much at all, the next day i was sent down to the operating theater for an arthroscope of the ankle joint to get a full picture of the the damage done. An arthroscope is basically were they put a camera inside your ankle and then they can see the joint on a TV in the operating theater. Not used the the general anesthetic and all the morphine they gave me i was a gonner for the next day, i remember talking to my dad for 5 minutes but apparently he was there for 5 hours by my bedside.

Due to the amount of damaged cartilage it would not be a simple bolt me up and send me home the next time round which i was sort of hopping for, wondering what best to do so i would make the best recovery i was in luck as the inaugural ankle and foot society was taken place when my surgeon took picture from the arthroscope to get some more opinions from Ireland's top ankle and foot doctors, After a couple of meetings and a few dozen opinions from different doctors throughout Ireland. An illizorv frame was seemed to be the best option to fix me up....so i was transferred to Talleght and Meath hospitals orthopedic ward where I had another arthroscope done on my ankle with two More surgeons and also my surgeon present. It was originally hopped that they would be able to pull the two apart and let scar tissue cartilage from, giving me more movement in my ankle but due to the severity it wouldn't have worked as i had done so much damage. So i was left with one option which was to fuse my ankle together using an illizorv external fixator

This method is used as to get the bone to grow there must be a good blood supply to the area, in a cast this does not happen as your leg is fixed and you cannot put your weight on it..with this the idea is too put weight through it to get the blood flow through it and get the bone to grow and fuse. It looks about the sorest thing you've seen in your life and it is quite sore but not half as much as what i was in before when in a cast. The function of the wires which go through my bone my leg my muscles is to support the ankle joint and remove pressure so you can put your weight through it... I must say it is an incredible incredible piece of medicine,id love to see a video of the putting it on as each wire has a tension of over 160 kg and the measurement's have to be to the millimeter for it to function correctly.

When i woke up from surgery i thought it had all gone wrong, i was it total shock i couldn't feel anything o both sides from my waist down on either legs as they had given me an epidural the the numbing injection used for pregnant women. It was all Rosy until about 10 or elven that evening when i got the feeling back in my legs and the pain just hit me...i had no morphine drip to my surprise and was chew my way threw more painkillers than they could throw at me cause they had removed a good bit of cracked bone also during the surgery.Plus the fact my foot and ankle was suspended in mid air in the frame which hurted like hell. Again i don't think i slept more than an hour...finally i got two morphine injections which killed the severe pain.so just as i felt comfortable the hustle and bustle of nurses doctor's breakfast everything physios you name it all landed at my bedside making me do stuff when all i want was to get a bit of sleep. Anyway after almost 3 weeks in hospitals all together waiting around in pain i just wanted to go home and relax, so finally i got the all clear from the docs and just as i was getting the all clear from the physios to go home the nurse made me stay to make sure i could clean the pinsites 100% myself. When i got home i was wrecked from being in hospital for s long so i just slept for two or 3 days.

Almost 3 weeks on from my surgery i am able to walk around sort of without crutches and am starting to try balance on my sore leg. I'm back in for a check up on the 13th to see if its all going to plan, and was just in with the physios this week who were amazed at my progress in such a shot amount of time.So ill find out for definite next week how long i will need to have it on for but originally it was supposed to be 3 months and then a cast for another month to let the bone mature and set.Lets hope all things go well and ill be back doing what i love the most out on the water.

Id like thank most of all my mam and dad for everything they have done for me not only in recent months and weeks but also throughout my whole life, also my brother and all the medical staff Mr Mckenna in particular also Mr Moore And Paula Kelly  doctors surgeons nurses physio and everyone who has wished me the best over the last few months in this tough time.My Sponsors Malcom Scott of Anatomy Physio, Paul Tansey and the list goes on.Also my university who have been really considerate towards me.

My ankle seems to be on the mend now, although im still not able to walk properly without crutches. All the swelling has almost gone. The Last two days have seen great improvements... i nealry lost it the other night cause it was still really sore all the time for nearly 3 weeks now  just got to me a bit too much.I never have had that amount of pain over such a prolonged period of time. Lets see how the rest of the Physio goes. Thanks to MalcomScott  from Anotomy physiotherapy who has just set up in clontarf on the coast rd and also to Paul Tansey http://www.nscom.ie/tansey/index.html for the work they have done with me over the last few weeks.

Home from Tiree and straight to the Hospital

TWC/JC

Just went to the hospital ... after i hurt my ankle in tiree, Luckily for me nothing was broken or chipped as if it was i  would have had to  get an operation and some pins in.. So basically I have overstretched the ligaments around my ankle and i have to wear a boot cast thing for 3 weeks so ill be off the water for the next month or so which i a bit disappointing. I'm pretty tranquilized at the moment so i  will update  you about my trip to Tiree later

Sylt Over... Back Home... Started College... Tiree here I come

So Sylt is over for another year.... i wouldn't say im quite so happy with my result as i was hoping to maybe pass another heat or two in the contest... But i suppose that's the way it goes. In comparison with the guys in the top 16 i feel i just need to take my level up a bit more and i should become more competitive when i make it through to the further stages of the elimination.... Overall for me the event was a great experience and its definitely the best organized windsurf event ..everything went so good. They Make a windsurfing event the way it should be. My 25th place in Sylt and in Pozo leaves me in 25th overall for the PWA world tour waves which is a lot higher than i thought i would be at the beginning of the year.  I would like to thank all my sponsors, family and all the people who have helped me out over the years.

I'm now back home and enjoying being back home for a bit, I also started my 2nd year in college today ,two weeks late so it has been super busy getting registered and stuff.

My next stop is Tiree wave Classic in the outer Hebrides in Scotland. I have always wanted to go to this event for the last few years,,, but just never made it ..so i have to go this year..It looks like a sick spot and cant wait to sailing up their. I have two tests in college and then Katie and I are leaving for the ferry to Scotland and the long drive up to Oban to get the ferry to Tiree...

Sylt....

I'm here in sylt now... got my computer up and running...

Sylt is incredible the organization, the tent, the stands, the facilities and hopefully some good conditions to make it a top event...

Today the wind teased the slaom sailors but never reached the required minimum. However talking to a few of the guys they felt pretty powered out on the water...

Tomorrow the skippers is set for 7 o clock for freestyle and waves.. with first possible star of 7.30. It gonna be tough, i think they might run freestyle. as the forecast is promising for the rest of the week...

Check this short  interview on the PWA site today of me http://www.pwaworldtour.com/index.php?id=35&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=1593&tx_ttnews[backPid]=29&cHash=641ab83f73

Also these pics from Magies the day before i left for denmark...

Denmark has to be one of the funest places eve to sail... so good...

Reunion Classic...

Today we had a sick day... for the reunion waves classic... we sailed aty ravine blanche... a really nice wave pretty power ful with some nice bowl sections that if you hit it right you got the sickest top turn ever but if you misstimed it you git destroyed....

For the laucnh the locals say a jump off the rocks... so i follow them and watch and i goo easy peasy.. i go with victor and a big set comes and cleans me off the rock and i get washed in... i take two on the head and then i mange to get out...

We did one round today i think the second heat had the best conditions.the level is so high everyone is charging super hard. Which makes you push it and go for....

Went to the doctoer after the comp today t get some urchins removed biut he only got two out... i think i ended up the worst for cuts on my head knee back and feet... but it was worth it...

Suil Teach Mor

Well since the weekend its been all go.. Me and Lewis went sailing in dollymount on saturday and then tried to go for another session in rush in the evening but the wind never came through... Sunday was supposed to be thee day in dublin with a load of guy dusting off the gear and grtting down to the beach... Well it was a bit of a let down but the waves were still good and their were patchs of good wind. But Not many seemed to be planning most of the time... Lucky im still small enough...

On monday I headed to belmullet as it was a macking forecast. Went out in elly beach as soon as i got there.. It looked real nice and was wondering were the hell everyone else was. I underestimated the size of the waves and on my first 3 runs just got drilled all the way to the beach... My determination to make it out back eventually paid off and I got a few nice waves before getting the living daylights scared outta me by a  Monster set of waves.. I couldnt see the beach in front of me as the wave was blocking it out completly ... I waited for it to build up and said lets go for it  then it jacked up and my white wetsuit nearly got ruiend... I compeletly bottled it and went in musta been close to double mast high...

I went out again at another more managable spot up the beach which was sick as the wind was a bit more side off... It was my first time on the quad and it was unreal....

Im off again now to Kerry to score some conditions down there and maybe in clare... First I gotta Pick Up The Big Dutch Guys Martin and Peter from  Shannon who are coming over on the forecast... Lets hope we get some nice conditions..

Oh Yea forgot to mention im going to reunion next thursday cant wait it goning to be sick... for more check out www.reunionwaveclassic.com for more info on the event....

New Boards , Malahide and Dollymount

Yesterday my new boards arrived...They Look Sick,Cant wait to try them all out especially to see what the Quad is like, I have heard so many good things about these boards.

The last 2 days I have been using my Kode 86 in flat water in Malahide and also with some small waves i Dollymount and i love it.. Its really quick and lively on the water, Planes early and turns really well for an 86 ltr board...Plus it is a top board for freestyle too...

Spent this evening searching and booking flights for my next trip which I will tell you all about in the coming days

Foecast has changed a good bit was supposed to be good in dublin tomorrow but now doesent look as promising... Sunday still looks good though...

Lets see if we can get a midwek run down west to really give my new boards a test...

World Windsurfing Day

Here we go on the 16th of August us windsurfers finnaly get a day for ourselves. Lets try and get a person involved in windsurfing or get someone back involved to this magical sport which brings so much fun to all of us.

On August 16th 2009, windsurfers the world over are invited to head down the beach and introduce a friend or two to windsurfing. Your best mate, your girlfriend, your son, your daughter, your grandpa or your pet – share windsurfing with them on WWD 2009.

Starboard’s Brand Manager Tiesda You, explains the idea:

"More than 80% of active windsurfers today are windsurfing because their dad  or a friend taught them. Growing windsurfing is as simple as that. So on the 16th of August, we’d like to invite the hundreds of thousands of windsurfers the world over to introduce windsurfing to friends and family. It’s simple virus theory: one cell becomes two, two becomes four, four becomes eight, and so on. It really is up to us to introduce windsurfing to those around us, and this is what WWD is all about.

See you all on the beach on WWD! August 16th, 2009

Looks like it should be windy in Ireland so no excuses!!!

Pozo Final Words And Pictures

I'm back home in Ireland after a month in Gran Canaria. The wind wasnt as good as normal but it  was great to sail everyday. The PWA contest went well for me and I'm really happy with my result. I managed to finish 25th in the competition, which doesnt sound too great but it is pretty good for my first world tour event considering how high the level is. I am now back from Pozo motivated more than ever before to improve my windsurfing. I have a really good feeling about this autumn  and cant wait to hit the west coast in search of some wind and waves...

Here is a few pics from the event etc...

Starboard Quad

The World’s first Quad fin wave boards - more drive, more traction, the ability to
generate more speed on the wave face, turn closer and tighter, ride more vertical with
the ability to go where you want, when you want. When going out through the waves,
the Quads also help you stay better upwind than single or twin fin boards, thus positioning you to catch more waves

Pozo Day 3

Since getting back from achill on thursday night it has been all go frantically packing everything for pozo seen as i had done any preperation before we went our our little road trip.Luckily mammy had a whole load of my stuff washed and ready to bag. I was so tired so i went to bed early, to rest up before the flight the next day.As i was about to turn off my computer and email came in confirming I had gotten into the world cup in Pozo. I was so excited, as it is my first world cup event which I will compete in.

This is my 3rd day here...well really my 2nd proper day here in pozo. Yesterday the wind came in late in the evening in pozo. Went out on my 74 Twinfin and my 4.0. It was good to get out onto the water. It felt real wierd sailing in warm water again and not getting a the shock of cold water when you go into the water like in Ireland. There was a good few out as i hasnt been windy here since last week.It was a good first session to used to sailing in pozo again..today it is windy already but there are no waves still. The swell is supposed to be changing direction so lets see if we get any waves...

Dollymount

sorry for the lack of updates but there was somthing wrong with the site and i wasnt able to update it...

Had  probably the best days sailing in dublin all year on saturday full power 3.7 and logo high waves..It was insane. Man i wish it was like that all the time...ehh well except for the driving rain but it was unreal so many ramps. Hadnt sailed port tack for a while and was good to get a bit of practice in before pozo. Im heading out there in 12 days looks like the wind has already started so i cant wait to get outta here. Yesterday was fun too in dollymount some small  pieces of chop to try a few air flakas shakas and ponchs from.

Good job too to the boys from the Council for getting dollymount a blue flag for another year in a row

Dollymount!!

had a great sail yesterday at dollymount... It was one of those days you couldnt miss...theres somthing about sailing at your local beach that you cant beat. Plenty of power on 4.0 and 70. A ton of people were out my dad said there musta been about 35 guys out... Recesssion wat recession!!!!

Made probably the sickest taka of my life hit a section and did a sorta air and was sildiing back for ages then it all spun round...was magic Started to try some pushtables on starboard tack and got minced on the sail.. i got a bit feaked a couple of times cause i just kept dropping outta the air and not rotating..The more you crash the more you learn i suppose...

... Exams for the next 2 weeks hopefully a high pressure will plant itself over ireland so i can get some study done...

After that im free till nearly october cant wait to get some miles on the road..

Oh yea check out my latest video on boardseeker @ http://www.boardseekermag.com/features/windsurfers/mikey-clancy-windsurfing-in-ireland-105.html

Big Air From Kerry

Check out this picture which oisin www.ir777.blogspot.com just sent me. Its from a sick session a couple of us had on Big Thursday of the UKWA wave competition in fermoyle competition was called off for the day after the double elimination was finished which was good as we could all just rip as hard as we could knowing there was no chance of competition later in the day. The shot is of me doing a big air must of caught a gust of wind on take off...cause I just went up and up.

UKWA Event Kerry

simon crowther

Wow what a week we had. Every day of wind around 4m - 4.7 weather with logo high waves all week. We had some absolutely sick sessions outside of the competition.

On the competition side of things i passed through my first heat, but in my second heat of the single i lost concentration and didnt sail the way i should have and missed the sets. In the Double i sailed a solid heat in the first round but then messed it up again in the second heat the wind went a bit lighter and took my 4 instead of my 4.7 and my big board and only got one decent wave. For the rest of it i got stuck in the rip and got punished for the rest of the heat... Pity really as i though i could have done pretty well. Ahwell not to worry there will always be another competion to do good in...

I had a bit more luck in the Boardseeker expression session. And won my heat.... So it was me against the big boys Phil Horrock John Skye and Proffit....I dont know how i did it but i managed to beat them and take the expression session, I think there was only 1.5 points in it between me and horrocks who came in second with a double.

Congratulations to Jamie Hancock who took the overall event win. Thanks to Jamie Knox, Louise, Duncan and the Judges for organising and running the whole event.

There should be some sick footage on Boardseeker in the next few days so keep a look out for it.

Intervarsities

Had a great weekend at the intervarsities. Thanks to all the people involved in organising this years event. We had perfect conditions for beginners on the saturday morning...In the afternoon the wind picked up and we were able to go sailing on the wave beach. Was pretty good. and for my first time back in the water since South Africa it was suprisingly warm... On the Saturday night everyone went to the Achill Head hotel and got some food and had a big party.

On Sunday morning we awoke to sunny skys and some cross shore winds with some pumping swell. I had a really good session and won the wave jam/ competition. So I was pretty chuffed about that one.

Life seeems to be going a thousand miles an hour at the moment for me just back into college then last night we went to the opening night of DITs rag week. The Caronas were playing and were actually suprisingly good.

Oh yea and tomorrow a few of us are doing a bungee jump to raise money for Console at DITs Auinger St Campus...

That's it really... might be some wind tomorrow if it comes through..Friday and Saturday look sick too.

Hope fully next week is more of the same as I have a week off. Sweeeeeet

Capetown Diary Day 16

No wind today...weather forecast is predicting  37 degrees today... which is nearly just a bit to warm but its better than the weather in Ireland so I'm not complaining. Just down at the beach there and saw one of the coolest things ever... a pod of dolphins were in playing in the waves so close to the shore. Was so cool!!!

Capetown Diray Day 15

Today we headed to the cape as cape town was showing no wind for the day. We left about 7 in the morning to try beat the rush hour traffic. Arrived at the cape and it was blowing its tits off with two guys out on the water on 4.2s the waves were good but were really really strange as the were only breaking on the right not up where the sand bar was on the left. SO we decided to try sail somewhere else and with no wind in witsands we went out sailing at Scarborough. If the swell was bigger this spot would be classic. Luckily the swell was still big enough in the sets to get a good few turns in before you started running into the kelp on the point.. Really good sail again. My evil twin was working great in these conditions. Once the tied filled the waves backed off a bit so we came in,de rigged and tried to get back to the cape but they wouldn't let us back in unless we paid again!!! So we headed back to cape town. There seemed to be a bit of wind so we rigged up at sunset and went out wind died straight away... We went and checked out the waterfront...really nice with some v nice restaurants hotels etc..

Capetown Diary Day 14

Sunday...Today was the best day of the week we sailed at sunset in the morning. I went out on 4.3 and my twin fin waves were about 3 metres..It was strange as the waves were only really on hit wonders if you want a popper hit off them. It was still plenty of fun and made for a few good wipeouts if you left in to late in the dumping waves... It quickly turned into a big chopfest as the wind started to go mental. We headed back to mine and grabbed some lunch and had a little rest . Then we went to big bay for a jumping session as the other spot haggat we thought might work great was crowded blown out and the swell wasn't wrapping in properly. Big bay was unreal, It was biggest I have ever seen big bay the waves were like big walls and the wind was nuking. Perfect for doing some massive jumps.

Capetown Diary Day 12

Friday we sailed haggat one of the best sessions of the trip by far super clean waves and some good wind. Man I love this spot. Its one of the least sailed by most people who come to cape town as it isn't super consistent. But we got it good and I know why the Italians love this spot so Much!!! Jimmy broke his mast base out the back and had to have a long swim in the sharky and wavy waters..

Capetown Diary Day 11

Thursday the wind changed direction and went NW. So we went to witsand as it looked like the only place that would work. The road was closed so we had to backtrack and go the long way to get there. But that had its benefits as we were able to get the best sandwhiches ever form a coffee shop in Halk bay. We got to witsands eventually at about 12. It looked sick. Super clean waves and enough wind for my 4.7 so we quickly rigged and got out and had heaps of fun. The water was so blue and clear and there was only a few people out which made it even more special

Capetown Diary Day 9

Today we climbed table mountain the hard way... long story.

We set out just to go up the easy way but we ended up taking the mountain climbing way up table mountain. It was tough work and what was worse we couldn't even make it to the top as the last 100 metres was just like 90 degrees steep. It was so disappointing as we nearly turned back a number of times but said we would keep going. But it just got too dangerous to do the last 100meteres plus we we pretty tired. I was dreading going having to go back down as the plan was to get the cable car back down as we didn't think we could make it down. It turned out to be surprisingly easy on the decent. We were disappointed that we didn't get to the top and we both wanted to go so we went up the lazy via the cable car. The view up the was amazing . It was the perfect day to go as there was no clouds at all so you could see for miles...

Capetown Dirary Day 8

We had a real nice session at sunset I was on my 4.0 S1. It was difficult to get the timing as the waves. But once I got it sorted I had some sick waves. We could of gone to melkboss or big bay but we were having so much fun we just stayed at sunset all day. After jimmy's friend had us round for a braii which was real nice.

Capetown Diary

Day one... arrived no wind so we chilled out. Took us 2 hours to get our car. Arrived place was sweet as. Got some food in table view.

Day two... forecast wasn't great for the day but the wind kicked in about 5 o'clock. Went out on my 4.7 and 74 twin fin board. Waves were almost head high. We sailed until dark. A great first session. Headed home and the three French chefs whipped up some food.

Day three... was sick the wind was blowing real strong and the swell was still small so we went to Melkbosstrand. Wind was honking so I took my 4.0 s1 wave sail and hit the water. brilliant session big backies and pushies. Working on nailing push tables now. We sailed for about 4 and a half hours. With the waves getting better as the day went on.

Day four...was by far my favourite day so far. The wind wasn't as strong as the previous day and the waves were bigger better and cleaner. I was trying to hit the lip as vertical and as late as possible which meant a few rinses in the washing machine. I feel super comfortable and relaxed with the conditions here. The best thing is its only the beginning of my trip.

Day five... the wind was dropping in cape town so we decided to take a chance and see if the Cape was working. If it wasn't on then there was no problems as we were able to do all the touristy things at the most south western point of Africa.

Day 6.... lets wait and see...

Synergy

The synergy is the perfect blend of simplicity and preformance in one dedicated package every compnent of the synergy has been developed from the ground up to ensure easy assembly, maximum durability and real preformance. Avaiable in various sizes for kids, juniors and adults. Every package comes with clear instructions, no prior knowlege is required

When you go to buy your first ever mountain bike, you don’t really need to know all the performance of every single component of the bike, or buy them separated like the pros, you just jump on your first bike and go. If you are new to windsurf and want to buy your first gear and give it a try to windsurf, you will have to listen to all the different kinds of components for your gear, different types of booms, extensions, masts, sails, etc…. Well, Severne Sail is always one step ahead innovating their gear, and now they have come with this great idea, the Sinergy gear pack. Do you want to learn to windsurf? You wont even need anyone to help you rigging or explain you how to do it properly anymore.

Every pack comes with all the components you need to rig it, and all the process is colour coded. Just follow the colour instructions and you will be sailing in no time.

Everything is easy, and you don’t need to be looking at numbers in the mast or boom, and even to put the down haul on is a lot easier. The price is a lot more affordable than if you try to buy all the beginners parts separated, and the packs are designed for different types of sailors: adults, juniors and kids.

Well there was .....as the Red Bull tent got blown over ,all the flags got blown away.... But the wind has seem to have snuck past us in the dark of  night..shame really as the spot seems to have really good potential and all the guys here are starting to get restless after nearly a week of sitting about in the cold...forecast is still stong and with the option of sailing on two different courses at high and low tide we should definatly get some sailing done!!!! Sorry for not updating the site in a while has been pretty quite hear over the last week or so with regards to windsurfing. But I have been super busy off the water be it training in the gym or in college.

I am delighted to announce that my university DIT have awarded me with a sports scholarship for windsurfing.

Im also equally delighted to announce that Plain Lazy will be my official clothing sponsor for 2008/2009. Check out there website by clicking on the logo on the left of the page. They are such a cool brand and I am stoked to be sponsored by them.

Should have some good action starting from tomorrow so stay tuned for some pics and maybe a little video. Looks like it will be a cold one though...

Have Been out of action for the last 2 weeks with a sprained knee. Was on crutches and in a splint for about a week and the last week each day i have gotten my strength back a bit more. Hopefully by the end of the week I should be back on the water after a bit of training in the gym..

New video is nearly ready. took me a while to make it as I was using one song and then i edited the video to that and it was crap so i started all over again. should have it up by tomorrow evening...

Also Congratulations To Oisin Van Gelderen and John Kenny for recently winning the Irish Wave and the Irish Speed Championships!!!

Donegal NW Ireland

Had a sick weekend up at Magheroarty  last weekend. On Saturday we got super clean waves up at the reef. Broke my mast earlier in the day so was forced to go out on a 4.3 , which was way too small, but just enough to get onto the wave which was so so so clean.

On Sunday we had smaller waves but a bit more wind, wind was very southerly so we ended  sailing  down the beach where the wind was a bit more cross shore.

Was a savage weekend considering there wasnt a breeze of wind in Dublin. Forecast looks even better for this weekend fingers crossed as there is not much on the cards for the rest of the week in dublin.

Dollymount

Had a super good session today a Dollymount. Wind was a bit flukey but the waves more than made up for that. Waves were nearly head high in the sets and was really really good fun down the line conditions. What other capital city in the world offers such good windsurfing conditions. Also there was a good crowd of  us out must of been about 35 guys.

Had so much fun one the evil twin, its so loose and radical off the top yet you still have so much control.

Got some video. Will put a few clips together from today later on.

Has been so bad here over the last week. Barely a breath of wind, at least its not lashing rain like all summer so I have been told. Trying to stay fit by running a bit.

Christmas Came Early!!!!!

Wow .....

What a Day woke up had breakfast checked the wind and my emails and just as we were about to leave for the beach the Delivery man arrived with all my brand new 2009 Severne S1 Wave sails :)!!! I unpacked my 4.7 and went straight to the beach to try them out!! Waves were pretty good and wind was a bit up and down but the Evil Twin 74 and 4.7 S1 combination!! I was really impressed with the twin fin it was so turney and loose on the wave and really controllable on the way out . My Best move was a taka on this side i couldn't do them up until now...

Then the wind pick up so i de-rigged and went back up home for some food and to get my smaller board my Evo 70 and my New 4.3 S1... When we got back to the beach a few more lads had rigged up and gone out for an evening session after work... unlucky for us we had to get our car towed off the beach as it wouldn't bloody start... I wasn't too worried about it so i rigged up my 4.3 and got back on the water as quickly as i could as the conditions were getting better with the tide on its way in so I left my dad to sort out the mess on the beach!!!

Had a really really good session everything felt so good i landed some One handed backies, push-loops and tried a few push table tops with one high quality wipe-out also tried a Double but only got 1 and a half...

Forecast for tomorrow is even better so cant wait to get back out on the water tomorrow!!

Oh yea dont forget to check the photo gallery for more Pictures!!

Ripping It!!!

Had 2 Sick days here in Dublin last Friday and Saturday in Dollymount and portmarnock... The Day out in Portmarnock was a classic one. Good Waves good wind not too cold and loads of people on the water. Was Nicely powered on my 4.7 for the whole day. Best moves of the Day for me was a nice Taka and a super high Backloop... Still trying to get my head round the Push Table Tops but i have a felling i should be getting them soon enough!!

Check Out the Pictures in the Photo Gallery

So excited today Also as i got some of my new boards... Kilcrea

Got out windsurfing today at kilcrea for 2 hours on my 5.6...

Wind came up for a good hour or so and the rest of the time i was just pumping onto the plane... I thought the 5.6 would fell huge compared to the 3.2 3.7 & 4.3 i was using in pozo for the summer in fact it didnt feel like a huge formula sail like i thought it might. It was strange  to be back doing some freestyle again but i still managed to pull off a few moves...

Later after dinner i was hyper for some reason so i went for a run around st annes park. Did about 3 miles at full pace around the park.

KERRY!!!!

Just Home from two sick days sailing in Kerry... It was a throw up between Kerry or Donegal. We Opted for Kerry over Donegal  as the conditions looked consistantly the  best over the couple of days we planned on going.

Arrived down at 10 o clock in the morning to find 7 or 8 guys out already at gowlane on 4.7s- 5.3s. I took my 4.7 S1 and my 80 Evo as the wind was pretty gusty and figured the extra volume would help me out to get over the white water in the lulls. Sailed for about an hour until the wind dropped off. I was pretty annoyed at this stage as the wind looked like it was gone for the day. Luckily some observant people saw some spray coming off the backs of the waves  up the beach. So i derigged and we headed on up to give it a check.  Magic just lke that it was good 4.7 weather with really clean waves the only drawback being the waves were a little smaller but still head to logo high in the sets. Sailed for another 3 or 4 hours as the conditions were like heaven compared to pozo. You just can beat a good days wavesailing... I was still buzzing and had lots of energy so i went for a surf for45 mins.By this stage both of us were famished so it was off to Spillanes for a good feed up.

Back Home

Well Im back home now after 2 months in pozo izquierdo. I happy in one sense to be back to see all my friends and family etc but sad too as the conditions are perfect for improving jumping.

Got my first session since i came back yesterday at Dollymount. Was good fun. But really really strange a it was starboard tack. Wind was a bit light at the start but kept on picking up at the end i was full power in my 4.7 unfortunatly the waves retreated with the outgoing tide. Its windy again today so going to get the gear packed into the car a check the conditions.

Swell and wind looks for monday and tuesday on the west so hopefully might get a trip over there and get some proper WAVES!!!

Nightsession and Waves!

Over the last couple of days i have been so so tired sailing everyday for 3 4 and 5 hours really kills you in the long run!!! Not the Windsurfing everyday with a 3.7 is a bad way to live...

Yesterday i decided to take a rest day which was good, I went to the shops and did something different for a change. But when i came back conditions were looking good at salinas so i said id go out for an hour but ended up staying in the water till 10 o'clock. yes it was pitch black but the was nearly a full moon so you could just see the essentials!!!

Todaywas looking good that was until the wind forgot to show up on schedule. When i mean there was no wind it was still 4.7 weather!!! The waves were looking good and the wind had picked up so i went out on my 4.3 and 70 evo and went to salinas again. however just as i arrived the wind dropped a few knots. The waves were pretty good and were peeling nicely almost logo high in the sets... 4 bottom turns, that was until the wind dropped some more the other guys headed in at salinas and opted for the long walk of shame back to pozo via the bunker. I on the otherhand stay out in hope that the wind would pick up a tad to make it a sick session... Wind never showed so i sailed all the way back up to pozo which took about an hour of wobbling in a zig zag pattern upwind!!!

In other news my Spanish i improving loads over here!!!
